A WALK ON THE WILDLIFE SIDE

Some of Selene Signs’ most popular designs feature wildlife and our Garden Bumblebee is rightly a best seller. But you wanted even more choice, so we’ve obliged and this spring has seen the launch of four new wildlife designs plus a cockerel. Ok, a rather more domesticated bird but it still fits with a country vibe.
First up is our Squirrel house sign, for which we found a vintage illustration of a red squirrel– already coloured – and added it to our round and rectangular formats. There’s sometimes a bit of a wait for new designs to take off, but we were delighted when our first order came from Idaho, USA, a state very definitely in American grey squirrel territory.
Swallows are a popular summer visitor to the UK, and ‘Swallow Cottage’ appears to be already in use for house names around the country. On request, we found this beautifully detailed vintage image, which has been carefully restored and made available for further use.
Another customer request resulted in our Fox house sign, featuring an original illustration by talented artist Nataly of KroArtist Studio. Love them or hate them, foxes are a part of both rural and urban life, and admired for their striking red coats, bushy tails and native cunning.
We turned to Nataly again following requests for a sign with a hare, and commissioned this delightful illustration, produced in watercolour with details added in oil pencil. Hares are associated with Easter, spring and – er – madness, so if you consider your household is a bit zany then our Hare sign could be used as a signal to visitors!
And the cockerel? A customer, English but living in Italy, wanted a prestige sign for her hen house, to be named ‘Cluckingham Palace’. We found this colourful vintage image of a rooster, and it is now available for anyone who wants a sign for hens who deserve nothing but the best, or for poultry-lovers everywhere.
All the new signs are printed on weatherproof aluminium, which gives great colour and detail reproduction. They are lightweight and easy to mount, with Velcro pads that we supply or carefully drilling holes for mounting on screws.
