More methods of mounting

Normally I recommend Velcro pads for mounting our signs, as they are invisible from the front and have been known to stick like limpets. But occasionally there are obstacles to using Velcro – some brick or sandstone is permeable and it won’t work. And I’ve heard that in regions with high heat and humidity the adhesive doesn’t stick around for long

Here are some other ways of putting up your house sign that we’ve come across and thanks to all our customers who’ve shared their experiences. I’m totally impressed with the skills that go into mounting the signs, and it’s fantastic that they inspire such dedication.

Mounting on a board: this is appropriate when the surface is too rough, such as pebbledash, undressed stone or a plank fence. You’ll need a piece of wood smaller than your sign, into which you drill holes and corresponding holes into the mounting surface. (see top picture) Then screw the board onto the wall. If you attach the sign to the board with the Velcro pads, it will give good stand-off from the wall and you won’t see the backing board so it won’t spoil the view.

Screws: again you’ll need good drilling skills as there’s a slight risk the sign image might chip unless you proceed carefully. On our round signs, you can drill the holes asymmetrically, as on this example, so the two small images aren’t obliterated. The screw heads have been covered, to protect them. Don’t screw the sign too close to the wall as it might become bent, and leaving a small gap gives a more attractive appearance.

Wooden frame: can look highly professional and you may need some woodworking experience to carry this off. The sign can be added with outdoor quality glue or the pads as before.

Plate hanger: you’ll just need one screw or nail in the wall and if you leave almost exactly the width of the plate hanger wire, the wire loop can be jammed tightly on top of the screw so it holds steady. I was quite surprised to find that this method survived all sorts of winds and storms, but of course the four hooks at the edge of the hanger are visible which may not suit everyone.

We’re always open to new suggestions, so you’ve used a different way to mount your Selene sign then please let us know and we can share!
